FUNCTIONS
Now let's talk about how exercise through sports is good for you. I'll tell you some of my favorite sports moments, and I'd like you to tell me some of yours.
I'll call my story "The beach trip."
When I was 13 years old my parents planned a trip to the beach as a surprise, without me knowing it. They planned this trip several months in advance, and only told me about it on the day before the trip. We usually went to the river, but since I hadn´t been to the beach in more than 5 years I was very excited! So gave both my parents hugs and told them how happy I was. It seemed like I'd been waiting forever for the chance to get back to the beach and that afternoon we packed our bags, and went to bed very earlier than normal, because we were leaving at 5:00 a.m. next morning. It took forever for morning to come, but at 5:00 a.m. we were on our way. We got to the beach around 7:30. My aunt and uncle and their two kids, Alex and Johnny, were waiting for us by the cabin my mom and dad had rented. I was really excited as I knew It was going to be a fun time. After breakfast with our parents, my cousins and I went for a walk along the beach. We returned to our cabin when we were asked to meet them. Our bags had already been unpacked, and everything was already set up. The next surprise was when I was told that we were going to have a 2 kilometer relay race in the water. Three red flags were placed in the water, one at the start, another at 1 kilometer, and the third, 2 kilometers from the first flag, which signified the finish. My two cousins and I were going to make up one team. I asked, "Who will we be competing with?" Surprise, surprise! The other team that we would compete with was made up of three other cousins of mine that my parents also had invited to the beach. My cousin Alex and another cousin from the other team began the race. Alex finished the first distance in the lead. Then Johnny started to swim, and led for a minute or two, but the other team’s second swimmer was a really fast swimmer, and had gone ahead of Johnny. I was to finish the race, and by the time it was my turn we were losing. The other team’s finisher was Ben, who, by the way, had my middle name "Andre” was beating me by only several meters, so I started swimming like never before and when we reached the finish line, my team won by the length of my forearm. When we got back on shore our parents gave each us a medal, it was only a plastic medal, but it was special because it was my first! From that day on, my five cousins and I became the best of friends.

Physical activity or exercise can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Physical activity or exercise can have immediate and long-term health benefits. Most importantly, regular activity can improve your quality of life.
Let's explore some more benefits that you get from exercising:
1) It makes you feel better. Exercise by itself improves your mood because it stimulates some brain chemicals that make you feel better, more relaxed and happier.
2) It boosts your energy. Oxygen also greatly stimulates the brain and improves the functioning of your heart and lungs, thus strengthening your muscles and increasing your energy.
3) You sleep better. Exercising helps you to sleep faster and deepens your sleep.
4) It is fun. It helps you to socialize because you can meet people with your same interests, and have fun while practicing a sport.
5) It controls weight and combats health problems. It prevents excess weight gain or helps maintain weight loss at the same time, regular exercise prevents a wide range of health problems.
